Moonk Foonk is a self-taught artist who just so happens to have a B.A. Studio Arts degree. Moonk Foonk is a Black artist from the city of Decatur, Georgia. Moonk Foonk considers her paintings and drawings as a bridge between her and the rest of the world. She uses her art as a therapy technique while allowing her viewers to feel a connection to her. Her artwork speaks volumes. Her art is an expression of her imagination, the realism she tries to capture, and the inspiration from mythical elements. She wants her viewers to have an understanding or an idea of what her art is trying to convey.
Moonk Foonk centers her work around Black culture and things that Black people are not often recognized in, especially as in how they are presented historically. Most of the history that includes the people of African descent was washed out over the years. She believes that showing her identity is important for her artwork, and she wants her artwork to be recognizable as hers. Her paintings have Black hairstyles, Black features, and beautiful dark skin. Her identity merges with the dark melanin in her skin and the beautiful features that were passed down from her ancestors. Moonk Foonk loves researching artists and feels inspired by many artists. Her greatest inspiration is her father, whose drawings of skulls and portraits have always been a part of her life.
